In 1911, August Klipstein and Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, who would later be known as the architect Le Corbusier, undertook a journey to the east of Europe. One set of documents remaining from this journey is 286 photographs. Shot with hand-held cameras, these photographs belong to a journey of self-discovery and document changing territories.

David Bergé discovered these photographs at the library of La Chaux-de-Fonds (CH) in a screening room as a digital projection. The library also owned the prints which were placed in cardboard boxes, mixed with postcards that Le Corbusier had been collecting before, during and after his trip. The photographs, as they were found in the archives, belonged to a larger ecology of images, which consisted of images in circulation and visual documents of personal encounters.

What we see in The Voyage Piece, is the entire set of photographs of the journey, projected in three parallel loops. Taken out of the archives and shown in their entirety, they are less the documents of an author, but pose a question concerning phenomenology of photography.

The Voyage Piece brings together, projects and introduces a temporality to these photographs.
