Liz Konoshita - Volcano

zat 16/08/2014 > zat 30/08/2014

Preparing for the première in Monty with technical and productional support of Pianofabriek Kunstenwerkplaats.

Première on Friday 21st of November at 20.30 - performance Saturday 22nd at 20.30.

Eyjafjallajökull, the Icelandic volcano, erupted in March 2010, scattering dangerous ash and causing cancelations and delays throughout European airspace - the largest disruption of air travel since World War II. Many people were momentarily stranded, unexpectedly halted.

Today, with some air travel costing less than ground travel options, we find ourselves going up in the air and down and before our bodies know it, we are in a new city, country, or culture. Generally we find new ways to anchor ourselves, more quickly. Permanence can seem a daunting prospect, if only because it is unusual. As "show people" in “show business”, we learn to be more flexible, to accomplish more, even if a work is minimal, or deconstructed, or "a flop".

Using elements from Liz Kinoshita’s research on mechanisms of the musicale, VOLCANO will be a delicate intertwining of contemporary dance, music and presence. Focusing on the momentum, tempo and rhythm in our lives in this day and age and in the physicality of the performers, VOLCANO aims to share the lifestyle led, the tour routes taken, and the feats required to make everything possible, even when challenged by ever present forces of nature. This work refers to our capacity to "globetrot", and what that means to us all in terms of time.
