Charlotte Bouckaert - (Re)ject - working title

A choreography of looking

In 2013 Charlotte Bouckaert made a series of videos named ‘Convergence’. In these works simple actions such as picking up a paper, painting a black canvas white or moving a screen in a spatial choreography, were combined with the projection of images on different surfaces.

In the research project (R)eject, conducted together with artist Bas Schevers and performer Nele Vereecken, by executing short actions – gestures - images are incorporated in a temporary, choreographed, visual experience. Thanks to analogue, human action a digital image can exist, for a moment.

The relation between light and image, photo and moving projection-surfaces are investigated. The idea for this projects stems from the scientific observation that a visitor of a gallery spends an average of 9 seconds watching an artwork. How can the looking at an image be directed?

The startup of this research takes place during a two week residency at the Kunstenwerkplaats Pianofabriek in April.
