Christoph Meierhans - Showing #3

Verein zur Aufhebung des Notwendigen One hundred steps to world peace (working title)

Saturday 25th April at 7pm at Kunstenwerkplaats Pianofabriek
Reservations: 02.541.01.70 - kunstenwerkplaats@pianofabriek.be

You do not need to eat before coming to Verein zur Aufhebung des Notwendigen. Do not eat because this performance is a dinner. It is a dinner about democracy. Not democracy as institutional engineering for mass organisation, but democracy as something we can internalize, as individuals, at the level of our day to day existence— democracy as the realisation of individual and collective desires.

Yet, this dinner is also a theatre piece. It is about a restaurant whose owners, cooks and waiters have abandoned the building. They have left their guests behind in the dining room, expecting dinner, each one with his own personal hunger.

Warm and convivial, the meal brings us together. But food is also home to our existential, ethical, aesthetic, economic, social, ritual and religious concerns. Dinner is a perfect set for political drama — the kitchen will be our theatre of operations.
